For my paper, I would like to explore who is more important to firms: shareholder or stakeholders? Stakeholders seems like the educated, wholesome answer, but is that what a business needs to focus on to be successful? What is success to a firm? Is it making a lot of money or being the top competitor in an industry? Most businesses, from the beginning of time, begin with a basic business model that help them make money. Is it just “trendy” today to be concerned for others or is it truly important to a firm for their success, regard, and profitability? Who do businesses truly need to succeed: its shareholders or its stakeholders? I’d love to come to a conclusion on this debate.
