The Hudson Institute

My dad, an ardent Democrat, has a friend from college who works for a think tank in D.C. called the Hudson Institute.  This place is well known as a haven for the conservative thinker.  Their mission statement is that they are an “organization dedicated to innovative research and analysis that promotes global security, prosperity, and freedom.”  While it is a typically vague description of a think tank, it seems to represent what they believe their mission is.

While the firm manages to stay out of the news for the most part, they typically side with the policy of the republican government.  In fact, one of their senior vice presidents is Scooter Libby, the advisor to Dick Cheney who was disbarred due to his convictions on perjury and obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame case.  The fact that the Hudson Institute flies under the radar helped Libby weather the storm after his release from prison.

While my dad may not agree with their work politically, the Hudson Institute is undoubtedly an influence in Washington, and will continue to help craft outside Republican policy for years to come.
